Abstract:
In the field of disposable hygiene products, hot melt adhesives—though “invisible” within the product architecture—are critical enablers that bond multiple material layers together. Based on application position, these adhesives are classified into construction adhesives, elastic strand adhesives, core adhesives, hook fastener adhesives, end seal adhesives, wetness indicator adhesives, and backing adhesives. This article focuses on the technical requirements of hot melt backing adhesives used in sanitary napkins, underpad sheets, and toilet seat liners.
Sanitary napkin backing adhesive is typically applied by hot melt coating onto the PE or breathable film on the product’s backsheet, then protected with release paper. Its core function is to securely anchor the napkin to the underwear, preventing shifting, curling, or edge leakage, while working together with the wing adhesives to enhance wrapping and leak proof performance. As the “invisible link” between the absorbent core and the garment, the backing adhesive directly determines the wearer’s freedom of movement and the reliability of protection. With the implementation of China’s updated national standard GB/8939 2025 for sanitary napkins and panty liners, higher requirements have been set for both peel strength and safety indicators of backing adhesives.
As one of the essential functional components of a sanitary napkin, the backing adhesive must meet the following performance criteria:
① Appropriate initial tack, excellent resistance to transfer, and sufficient cohesive strength;
② Strong adaptability to seasonal and regional variations, maintaining good initial tack even at low temperatures;
③ Stable aging performance at ambient conditions, with minimal changes in peel strength and color over prolonged storage;
④ Moderate peel force across various underwear fabrics—cotton, synthetic, modal, etc.—ensuring broad substrate compatibility;
⑤ Light color, low odor, non toxic, non sensitizing, and safe;
⑥ Wide processing window, moderate application temperature, and smooth coatability.
CO MO has long been dedicated to hygiene grade hot melt adhesives, offering a range of specialty backing adhesives for sanitary napkins. Among them, CM929MFU has become a widely recognized and preferred choice among our customers.
In practical application, CM929MFU achieves a well balanced combination of initial tack, holding power, and cohesive strength. Its instant adhesion is excellent: with light pressure, it bonds firmly to PE breathable films and release papers. During wear, a gentle press against the underwear ensures secure attachment, effectively preventing shifting, curling, or leakage during daily activities. Whether the underwear is made of cotton, synthetic fibers, or modal, CM929MFU delivers consistent, moderate peel strength—reliable enough to hold yet cleanly removable without adhesive residue or damage to the backsheet.
Weathering resistance is a key safeguard for adhesives in diverse use environments. CM929MFU performs stably under both high and low temperature conditions: it remains flexible and tacky without becoming brittle in the cold, and it resists softening or bleed through in hot, humid environments, maintaining reliable bonding even after extended wear. Its aging resistance is equally outstanding: during the entire ambient storage lifespan, color and bond strength show negligible degradation, and peel force stays consistent—ensuring product quality throughout transportation, storage, and end use.
From a processing standpoint, CM929MFU exhibits excellent fluidity at application temperatures of 145–170°C, with minimal stringing, screen clogging, or carbonization. It adapts well to various coating methods and production speeds, meeting the demands of high efficiency continuous manufacturing.
As a national high tech enterprise and a participating member in the drafting of hygiene adhesive industry standards, CO MO continuously drives product innovation through technology. CM929MFU embodies our R&D achievements in low odor, low irritation, and high stability hygiene adhesives. It has passed multiple safety tests and contains no heavy metals or optical brighteners, delivering “healthy bonding with peace of mind next to skin.”
As the quality of feminine care products continues to improve, consumers are placing higher demands on comfort, safety, and reliability. CO MO CM929MFU hot melt backing adhesive meets these exact technical needs with four core advantages: safety and environmental friendliness, balanced adhesion, reliable weatherability, and process versatility.
