Abstract:

Against the backdrop of ongoing plastic restriction policies and rising environmental awareness, paper bags are rapidly replacing traditional plastic bags as the mainstream choice in the packaging market. However, the growing diversity of paper bag types, manufacturing processes, and end use scenarios demands more sophisticated bonding solutions. CO MO Adhesives, focused on hot melt R&D, has precisely responded to these industry needs by launching a dedicated hot melt adhesive series covering all paper bag categories—delivering superior bonding performance to help upgrade sustainable packaging.

1. Kraft Paper Bags – High Load Bearing, All Scenario Adaptability
Kraft paper bags are widely used in supermarkets, food delivery, and industrial packaging, where handle attachment strength is critical.
The CO MO 858 series of adhesive pellets is specially designed for kraft bag handles. Suitable for all seasons, it bonds well with various handle materials—including paper cord and core spun cord—and is compatible with both sheet fed and roll fed fully automatic equipment.
Performance highlights:
Static load capacity of 10 kg with no handle detachment after 24 hours;
Single side tensile strength exceeding 180 N, meeting heavy load requirements;
In dynamic lift testing, handles remain intact after 3,900 lifts under a 5 kg load.
Moreover, the 858 series exhibits excellent resistance to extreme temperatures: after 24 hours at 80°C or –30°C, there is no adhesive bleed out or bond failure, and performance remains stable upon returning to room temperature. The series also features low adhesive consumption, contributing to cost efficiency, and is suitable for storage, transport, and everyday use in all scenarios.
2. Laminated Paper Bags – Strong Weather Resistance and Smooth Application
Laminated paper bags—waterproof, stain resistant, and aesthetically refined—are common in food, gift, and high end cosmetic packaging. Bond strength at side seams and the bottom directly affects bag durability.
CO MO offers cost effective, high fluidity hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives that achieve fast, reliable bonding between the lamination film and paper layers, resulting in neat, flat seams without open edges or bottom leakage. For export shipments and extreme temperature requirements, our polyolefin based adhesive for laminated bags withstands temperatures up to 90°C and as low as –30°C, with no bond failure or bleed out within 24 hours—easily meeting the heat challenges encountered in container transport.
3. Waistless Paper Bags – Strong Bonding and Extreme Low Temperature Resilience
Waistless paper bags feature an integrated design that offers high load capacity and a premium appearance, making them ideal for luxury packaging. The bonding between the woven strap and the bag body demands high strength, particularly under temperature extremes.
CO MO’s strap dedicated hot melt adhesive delivers strong adhesion to PP twisted thread straps, supporting loads of 10–20 kg, and is compatible with various waistless bag making machines and automatic glue feeding systems.
Our bag body adhesive offers broad compatibility, bonding well with difficult substrates such as laminated films, oil coated surfaces, and metallic card stock. It applies without stringing and provides excellent forming quality. Notably, its low temperature performance is outstanding: at –20°C, the laminated bag body can still be torn by hand, meeting the demands of extremely cold regions like Northeast China.
4. Handmade Bags – Quick Melt, Quick Set Glue Sticks for Enhanced Manual Efficiency
Handmade bags offer flexible designs and are commonly used in custom applications such as gifts and cultural/creative products. Handle and cord attachment often rely on manual gluing. CO MO’s fast melt glue sticks are specifically formulated for this purpose: they are low odor, safe, and environmentally friendly; they melt rapidly upon heating for easy application; and they cure quickly, allowing immediate fixation after gluing—significantly reducing bag making time. At the same time, they provide high bonding strength, ensuring handles stay securely attached without loosening.
5. Full Category Coverage + Customisation Services – Meeting Diverse Development Needs
From kraft paper bags and laminated paper bags to waistless paper bags and handmade bags, CO MO achieves comprehensive coverage of paper bag hot melt adhesive applications—balancing versatility with specialised requirements. We also offer customised adhesive solutions tailored to individual customer needs.
As environmental regulations tighten and the paper bag market continues to expand, CO MO remains committed to deepening technological innovation and product upgrading—enriching our portfolio, optimising performance, and responding fully to the diverse development demands of the paper bag industry with superior products and services.

Application of CO MO UV Acrylic Hot Melt Pressure Sensitive Adhesive CM105UV in Removable Labels

In 1960, Shell introduced hot melt pressure sensitive adhesives (HMPSAs) in the United States. With 100% solids content, solvent free formulation, safety and environmental friendliness, high throughput, and low cost, HMPSAs quickly penetrated the label industry. Pressure sensitive adhesives moved labels from the “brush and wet” era into the self adhesive age of “peel and stick, removable, stable, and durable” products—a leap that significantly accelerated industry growth. Today, the main adhesive technologies in labeling include SBC based HMPSAs, water based adhesives, solvent based acrylics, and the UV acrylic HMPSAs that CO MO champions. In removable labels, where substrates vary widely, application conditions are demanding, and food/pharmaceutical safety is paramount, the stability, compatibility, and environmental profile of the adhesive are especially critical.

Application of CO MO Backing Adhesive CM929MFU in Sanitary Napkins

In the field of disposable hygiene products, hot melt adhesives—though “invisible” within the product architecture—are critical enablers that bond multiple material layers together. Based on application position, these adhesives are classified into construction adhesives, elastic strand adhesives, core adhesives, hook fastener adhesives, end seal adhesives, wetness indicator adhesives, and backing adhesives. This article focuses on the technical requirements of hot melt backing adhesives used in sanitary napkins, underpad sheets, and toilet seat liners.
